Pictures Galore

It turns out that I haven't shared pictures on the blog since April so there's a lot to look at.  See the post below for Chicago pictures. This blog post is a random journey of pictures.  And when I say random, I mean random!  I could tell you the story behind the picture below, but I think it's more fun to just show it to you and have you wonder.
We had a fun night with friends a while back. Jon snapped a picture of the twins - Charlotte and her buddy have the same 'do!

Mina came home with a sword, which she spent some time decorating the next morning.  It's the prettiest sword ever!  Mina has really been into coloring this summer.
We had a robin's nest to peek at for a while.  It was pretty neat when one of the eggs hatched.
We've spent a lot of time playing outside at various parks and in our backyard.

We celebrated Frontier Days on the first weekend of June. Our family went to the fort on Friday night and then did the parade on Saturday morning.  Jon decorated his jeep to make everyone happy in MOMs group.
Now that it's hot outside, we've been going to the pool.  I discovered that Charlotte's new swim bottoms are a little large for her.  At one point her entire bottom was revealed to the world.
Charlotte is now wearing a one-piece!  Mina has started to swim under water and isn't being such a chicken with water.  It's making supervision even more important.
Jon made the mistake of sending me this picture when he was away for work and I was home alone with the kids.  I had macaroni and cheese that night.  Apparently he did too...with ahi tuna and his macaroni was a little more gourmet.  He won't be making that mistake again!  He's away for work again as I type this. I asked him about his dinner when he called and he didn't say much.  Smart(er) man!
My pregnancy has been going really well lately. I'm not feeling sick at all and I'm feeling pretty good physically, except for some back pain on the days I work out.  Here's my number one craving.
The girls have been Cute.  They love to snuggle me and they love to hug each other. Charlotte is always asking me to sit on the couch with her for a snuggle.  Mina is always helping Charlotte and loving on her.

We've really slacked off with taking official belly pictures, but a couple have been snapped recently.  I'm starting to round out a bit. I've gained 16 pounds from my lowest weight during this pregnancy.
I snapped this one at the gym last week.  My cardio class just about did me in so I thought I'd better get one last picture in.  Seriously. You should have seen me sprinting and jumping around. It was ridiculous.
I really wish my kickboxing class was held during the summer.  I miss hitting the standing bag hard enough (with gloves on) to do this to my hands. It beat running stairs!
Mina and Charlotte played with Hailey while Jon and I went for dinner on my 33rd birthday. Mina's hair looked like this when we got home. It was her first braid. Pretty!
We went to Market on Central and Blanden's 80th Anniversary Party this past weekend. It rained, but we were still able to make the most of it.  Both girls had their faces painted. Charlotte stayed amazingly still.
Mina's rainbow was so gorgeous!  The girls did spin art, tie-dye, paint wash, and decorative pin making also.  Their favorite part was getting to see the puppet show. This year it was Hansel and Gretel.
Jon bought a cheesecake for our anniversary. Charlotte kind of liked it.
We spent our tenth wedding anniversary in Iowa City.

The girls stayed at my parents' house and they sent me this picture.  They didn't have any fun at all.  Mina told on them when she got home though and said that she stayed up past her bed time.  She's just not very sneaky.  She always tells on herself.
And if you need a laugh, check out Charlotte's faces.  She makes me smile every day!

Chicago Trip

We went on a family vacation a couple of weeks ago. Jon wanted to go to a Radiohead concert near Chicago so we planned a trip around that. We took a few pictures while we were there.

In case you hadn't heard, we got rid of the Pacifica and bought a brand new swagger wagon AKA minivan.  The girls enjoyed their first car movie experience on the way (Barbie Rapunzel - ACK!)

We went to the Children's Museum at Navy Pier on our first full day.  Lots to see and do there!

Charlotte enjoyed the circus room.

Mina loved the pirate ship and rigging.  Charlotte wanted to climb it, but she wasn't old enough.

We went on the ferris wheel. It was obviously hot outside.

We had a great view from our hotel room. Jon took this panorama with his cool phone (although his phone isn't as cool as mine, just to keep the facts straight).
We spent the next morning at Shedd's Aquarium where we apparently didn't take any pictures. Maybe that was for the best. Charlotte slapped me on the face hard enough for strangers to groan. She went into time out for that one!  Don't ever let Charlotte get hungry because she gets mean.  We did have a fun time there. Mina's favorite part was the dolphin show and Charlotte's favorite part was the yogurt parfait.

Charlotte is an awesome bus rider.  How cute is she hanging on?  Mina was an ambassador for Iowa State on the bus and sang a rousing rendition of the fight song along with "I am your robot friend. I'm here to help you..."
Jon and I enjoyed the concert.  Kelsey watched the girls while we were out and they all got to experience fancy room service for the first time ever.  I haven't even experienced room service before!

The kids slept so well during our vacation that we're feeling a little more confident about the switch to them sharing a room.  I have a bunk bed picked out, but haven't pulled the trigger on that one quite yet.  I'm not ready for my baby to be out of her crib.

We fully enjoyed our long weekend in Chicago with the girls.  It turns out that they're incredibly good travelers.  I wonder where we'll go for our next adventure?  Mina wants to go on a cruise.

The Dirty Closet

I don't know about you, but I can't stand to be unorganized. If something in my life is messy, then it just eats at me.  I want to be so organized that a perfect stranger could look in my drawers and closets without me feeling even a twinge of embarrassment (well, except for my lingerie drawers).  Anyway, I've had a mess on my hands lately.

I was living out of storage bins in my closet. My drawers were overflowing. It made me not want to be in my bedroom (thus the lack of blog posts since that's the room where I blog). The reason for the mess was the "changeover."  I'm gradually starting to wear less normal clothing and more maternity. The bins had all of my maternity clothes in them.  I finally spent the time to get organized again and I'm a new woman. You're welcome to come over and check things out.

I'm not just this way about closets. Starting at a young age, I liked to pretend that I was being watched a la The Truman Show.  I changed my imaginary audience and strived to be my best, not just for myself, but for my fans.  I'd pretend that I was taking a driving test while parking, that my teacher was watching when I finished a book, that a cute boy was watching when I was laying out, etc. Looking back on it, I don't know how healthy that was.

I have a confession.

I still do it.

When I'm playing with my kids, I occasionally imagine the pediatrician watching. When I'm working out, I imagine my friends watching. When I'm picking up the house with an aching back, I imagine my husband watching.  It inspires me to try harder.  After all, I have an audience to impress and they have high standards.

Yes, I know that I don't have an audience. I know that my day to day life is really pretty boring.  I don't pretend to have an audience very frequently anymore.  It's more of a mind game to entertain myself.  If I slack off, then the only person that knows is me.  I figure it doesn't hurt to try for perfection though. Right?  Are you judging me now?

Anyway, on to the kids.  I don't know if I should share what they've been up to because you might think I'm making it up for my "audience".  They've been absolutely awesome.

For example, yesterday I took the girls grocery shopping. They love to grocery shop.  Mina typically pushes one of those customer in training carts while Charlotte rides in one of those obnoxiously large car carts. Charlotte wasn't having it yesterday. She insisted upon the training cart.  I was scared that my normally peaceful shopping experience was going to be a disaster.  It started off looking that way.  I'm sure we were quite the sight with two little carts and a normal cart. We resembled a disorganized parade.

Charlotte got the hang of following along with her cart by the time we reached the bananas. Mina came up with a system to take turns getting to put things in their carts (thank goodness for a smart kid!). Charlotte was amazingly agreeable to taking turns and she stayed with us.  They broke into song in the dairy department.  Unlike my sisters, who sang "Mom's got a big ol' butt. Oh yeah!", my girls sang "I love my mommy, yes, I do!" Seriously?  How in the world did I get so lucky to have kids like that?  Both girls made it through the whole store with their carts.  Charlotte's was overflowing by the time we were done and she had a big grin on her face.

By the time we made it through the checkout, I was near tears. Happy tears.  The girls returned their carts and get this....they hugged.  It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.  By the time we got home, I ran inside to use the restroom (since pregnancy is beginning to weigh on my bladder), and you won't believe what happened next.  Mina unloaded the minivan.  She carried in all but the two bags that were too heavy for her.

Where did this child come from?  I give Mina a lot of the credit with Charlotte's good behavior.  She's a fantastic example.  She's so wonderful, that I'm excited that she won't be in school full time yet when the baby comes.  I'll have two helpers to help with the baby instead of two babies like last time.  I'm sure we'll have our moments, since even Mina isn't perfect, but she's really unbelievably awesome.  Both of my girls are pretty terrific.

Charlotte had an interesting adventure last week.  We've always used sleep sacks to keep the girls in their cribs as long as possible.  Jon and I protect our time together in the evenings as much as we can, so that includes keeping the kids out of our hair once it's their bed time.  Mina used a crib until she was almost 3 and she never climbed out once.  Charlotte climbed out last Monday, sleep sack and all.  We figured we were in for it and she gave us a run for our money on Monday.  It was a tiring, frustrating evening of putting Charlotte back into her crib repeatedly. Jon did most of the work because my back was hurting. Yay, Jon!

I posted on Facebook about the disaster and got all sorts of sympathy (along with some scary stories).  We thought it out, planned ahead, and we were ready for Charlotte on Tuesday.  I talked with her about it during the day.  I told her she should stay in her crib when it's time to sleep and that she could get hurt climbing out. I figured she wouldn't listen. But no, my sensitive child listened. In fact, she kept calling herself naughty (even though I hadn't told her she was naughty for exploring).  She has only gotten out a couple of times since. She hasn't left her room even once.  We didn't have to use any of our plans for her. She did what we wanted and all we had to do was ask.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do believe that fight isn't over.  What kid is that easy?  She's going to test us again. Maybe she's just trying to lull us into complacency...

Phew, my hands are getting tired from all this typing.  Now that my closet is clean, I'll have to come back and post some pictures and get back on the ball with blogging.  Next week we'll find out if this little baby is a boy or a girl.  That'll be fun!

April

Mina celebrated her "miracle day" on April 5th by eating a hard boiled egg.  This is how she posed for me. It's hard to believe that I went through my last IVF five years ago and she was the result. We're incredibly lucky!
The girls enjoyed coloring eggs a couple of days before Easter.  I survived the mess without freaking out. No clothes were harmed in the process. LOL!
We attempted to get some pictures of the girls in their Easter outfits and this is what we got.

Isn't this just the best family portrait ever?

We were "egged" the day after Easter. The girls had a ton of fun searching for the eggs our friends put in the front yard. Jon happened to be home so he got to help too.
What a terrible face! I just want to smooch on her.
Mina had her tumbling open house this past Friday.  I dropped her off ahead of time and then the rest of the family came to watch her perform. She was so excited and kept telling us how awesome it was going to be.

What a cutie! She waved at us a number of times during the performance and while she was seated with her class.

For a while there we were having nice weather so Mina used that time to practice riding her bike. Notice that there aren't any training wheels!  She needs help starting and stopping, but she definitely has her balance.
Mina delights in torturing her father.  It IS kind of fun.
Here's a belly picture of me from about a week and a half ago.  I look MUCH bigger now.  I was so excited that I wasn't showing at 12 weeks and then BAM!  We're behind in taking belly pictures, but I'll share a 14 week picture soon.
I'm feeling much better, but I've been spending my afternoons laying around on the couch lately. I can't really blog from that position.  I've continued to work out in the mornings and we're keeping busy with play dates and MOMs group.  The girls are soooo painfully cute these days.  Charlotte says, "I love you. You're the best. You're a pretty mommy."  Mina sings beautiful songs. Life is good!
